Compression re-encodes each page like a flattened printed copy — 300 DPI prints cleanly and keeps handwriting legible. Files that would not shrink (e.g. ordinary text PDFs) are automatically kept as-is, never degraded.
Email providers measure the encoded message; attachments grow ~35% in transit. If your provider’s limit is 10 MB, a 7 MB chunk is a safe target.
